Echocardiogram in New Jersey
A painless ultrasound that images the heart's chambers, valves, and blood flow. Offered by Dr. Sankalp Pathak, MD, FACC, across all six MyCardioVascular Clinic locations.
What Is an Echocardiogram?
An echocardiogram is a painless ultrasound of the heart that uses sound waves to create moving images of its chambers, valves, and blood flow. It lets a cardiologist see how well the heart is pumping and detect problems such as valve disease, heart failure, or the cause of a murmur — without any radiation or recovery time.
Why You Might Need an Echocardiogram Evaluation
Dr. Pathak may recommend this if you have:
- Shortness of breath or swelling in the legs
- A heart murmur heard during an exam
- Chest pain, palpitations, or dizziness
- Monitoring a known heart or valve condition
- Evaluating the heart before or after a procedure
What to Expect
Before
No special preparation is usually needed for a standard echocardiogram, and you can eat and take medications as normal.
During
You'll lie on your side while a technician moves a small probe across your chest. The test is painless and typically takes 30–45 minutes.
After
There is no recovery time — you can return to normal activity right away. Dr. Pathak reviews the images and discusses the results with you.
